Many permanent molar and premolar teeth erupt with very prominent grooves which bacteria can enter but our toothbrush bristles cannot reach. As a result, it creates the perfect breeding ground for the bacteria to multiply and dental decay to form.
A sealant does just what its name suggests…it seals off the grooves so that the bacteria can’t get in. Two common misconceptions about sealants are that only kids benefit from sealants and that every tooth needs a sealant. The reality is that it really varies from patient to patient and even from tooth to tooth.
At Hansen Dentistry we never take a one-size-fits-all approach, which is why we will only recommend sealants on teeth that need them no matter what age our patients are!
We feel that dental sealants are important and want you to rest assured that we stand behind our work. Sealants typically last for two to five years but can often last much longer.
However, if a sealant cracks, breaks or comes out, we will be happy to replace it for you at no cost for up to two years after placement. This warranty is valid only if six-month exam and cleaning appointments are maintained.
